[[데프 레파드]]의 명실상부한 대표곡으로, 더불어 1980년대 최고의 글램 메탈 곡으로도 불린다. 대표적인 수상만 두고봐도 VH1 선정 가장 위대한 1980년대 노래 '''2위'''[* 1위는 [[본 조비]]의 [[Livin' on a Prayer]].], 롤링 스톤 독자 선정 최고의 글램 메탈 노래 '''2위'''[* 1위는 [[데프 레파드]]의 Photograph.] 등을 차지하였을 정도이다. 팬들도 Photograph와 함께 이 곡을 데프 레파드의 최고봉으로 친다.

빌보드 핫 100에서 2위를 기록했고 [[1988년 빌보드 핫 100 연말 차트]]에서 19위에 올랐다.[* Armageddon It(3위), Hysteria(10위), Love Bites(1위)와 함께 앨범 내에서 가장 높은 빌보드 순위를 차지한 곡중 하나다.] 최종 순위는 Love Bites보다는 낮았지만, 이 노래가 [[MTV]]에서 최고 인기곡으로 자리잡으며 롱런했기 때문에 대중적으로는 Love Bites보다 더욱 히트쳤다. 당시 사람들의 증언을 들어보면 '''1988년에는 MTV만 틀면 Pour Some Sugar on Me가 나왔다'''라고 했을 정도.

이 곡은 평론적으로도 높은 평가를 받는다. 그 이유는 초기의 [[랩]], [[힙합 음악|힙합]]에서 영향을 받은 곡이기 때문. [[조 엘리엇]]이 랩을 하듯이 가사를 내뱉는 부분이 군데 군데 삽입되어있는데, 이것은 실제로 미국 힙합에서 영향을 받았다고 데프 레파드의 멤버들이 실제로 발언하였다. 그중에서는 특히 [[에어로스미스]]와 Run DMC의 듀엣곡인 [[Walk This Way]]에서 가장 큰 영향을 받았으며, 이 곡을 통해 [[헤비 메탈]]과 [[힙합 음악|힙합]]의 조화에 대해 충격을 받았다고 발언했다. 원래는 어쿠스틱 곡이었지만, [[로버트 존 머트 랭]]의 조언으로 힙합을 섞은 메탈 곡으로 바뀌었다고도 한다.

여담이지만 영국과 미국의 뮤직비디오가 다른데, 영국은 철거되는 집 안에서 노래를 부른다는 컨셉이고 반대로 미국판 뮤직 비디오는 Armageddon It의 컨셉과 마찬가지로 실황 영상을 편집하여 넣었다. 이는 재정적으로 미국판 뮤직비디오를 새로 찍을만한 돈이 없어서(...) 그랬다고 한다. 하지만 미국판 뮤직비디오는 역동적인 연출과 멤버들의 얼굴빨로 상술했듯 1987년 최대의 MTV 히트작으로 자리잡았다.
