== 개요 ==
Maryland, My Maryland

[[남북전쟁]] 당시 만들어진 노래. 

1861년 [[미국]] 남부의 11개 노예주가 미국을 탈퇴하여 [[아메리카 연합국]]을 수립했는데 [[메릴랜드]]는 노예주임에도 연방에 잔류했다. 하지만 메릴랜드가 연방에 잔류했다고 해도 그게 메릴랜드인들이 미 연방 정부에 우호적이라는 뜻은 되지 않았다. 많은 메릴랜드인들이 남부를 직접적으로 지지하지는 않아도 남부에 동조했다.

1861년 4월, [[남북전쟁]]의 진압을 위해 북부 연방군이 메릴랜드의 주요 도시인 [[볼티모어]]를 거쳐 남부로 이동하기 시작했는데, [[양키]]놈들의 군대가 자신들의 고향을 밟고 남부를 밟으러 간다는 소식에 격분한 친남부 볼티모어 시민들이 4월 19일 볼티모어에서 폭동을 일으켰다. 이 폭동은 연방군과 친연방 시민들에 의해 곧바로 진압되었으나 메릴랜드 출신의 ~~반란분자~~ 아메리카 연합국 시민 제임스 라이더 랜달(James Ryder Randall)은 이 소식에 격분하여 그는 아홉 연짜리 시를 썼는데, 이 시에 독일 민요인 [[O Tannenbaum]]의 가락이 붙어 현재의 노래가 만들어졌다. 이 노래는 아메리카 연합국 군대가 군가로 사용했으며 1939년에는 메릴랜드 주가(州歌)로 공식 지정되었다.

[[로버트 E. 리]]의 남군이 메릴랜드를 침공하면서 메릴랜드의 친남부 여론을 자극하기 위해 행군하며 부르기도 했다. 하지만 이미 메릴랜드의 친남부 세력은 진압되었거나 이미 메릴랜드를 탈출해서 남군에 가담했기에 별 소용이 없었고, 결국 [[앤티텀 전투]]에서 패했다.

물론 노래의 근본이 반란군 종자들 노래다보니까 허구한날 바꾸자는 소리가 튀어나온다. 결국 2021년 주가의 지위에서 끌려내려 왔다.
