>파투로도 불리는 마오리족 전투 곤봉은 뉴질랜드의 마오리족 전사들이 11~13세기경 손에 들고 사용하던 무기입니다. 이 곤봉은 육탄전을 선호했던 마오리족에게 잘 맞는 무기였습니다. 마오리족은 성별과 상관없이 싸울 수 있는 사람은 모두 입대할 수 있었습니다. 마오리족 군대 구성원 대부분은 남성이었지만 모든 청소년이 아주 어릴 때부터 전사 훈련을 받았습니다. 상대를 무력화하는 게 아니라 오로지 죽이기 위해 만들어진 이 곤봉은 돌, 나무, 고래수염, 녹암 등 여러 단단한 재료로 제작되었습니다.

>Maori War Clubs, also called Patu, were handheld weapons used by the Maori Warriors of New Zealand sometime between the 11th and 13th centuries. The Maori preferred hand to hand combat, and these weapons fit this style well. Maori armies allowed all capable people into their army, regardless of gender. Despite males making up the majority of the army, all youths began their warrior training at a very young age. Made for the sole purpose of killing the opponent rather than disabling them, these clubs were made of many hard materials such as stone, wood, whalebone and greenstone.
