Love Sux는 라빈이 엔터테인먼트 위클리와의 인터뷰에서 "지금까지 나의 앨범 중 가장 [[얼터너티브]]한 음반"이라며 "지금껏 내 앨범 대부분은 팝송, 발라드, 그리고 꽤 다양한 장르를 가졌다. 저와 함께 일했던 사람들은 저를 정말 이해했고 그런 음악 장르에서 왔다."라고 말했다. 그녀는 이 음반의 녹음에 대해 "그녀가 같이 자라난 유형의 사람들과 어울리며 고등학교 시절로 돌아간 것 같았고, 그것은 그저 노력이 필요하지 않았다."고 말했다. 

나일론과의 인터뷰에서, "이 앨범은 비록 실연과 이별에 관한 곡들이 있지만, 가볍고 행복하다"고 말했다. 그리고 "그것은 강력하며, 사람들이 자신을 옹호하고 자존감을 가지라는 긍정적인 메시지를 가지고 있습니다." 그녀는 또한 Love Sux가 "자신의 커리어 내내 만들고 싶었던 앨범"이라고 말했다.

Clash Music은 "라빈의 음반을 2000년대 향수의 열풍으로 무시하기 쉽지만 흐릿한 향수와는 거리가 멀다"며 "Love Sux가 아티스트로서 라빈의 성장을 보여주고 있다"고 말했다. 또한 "[[에이브릴 라빈]]과 사랑에 빠지게 한 모든 요소를 가지고 있을 뿐"이라고 결론지었다.
