1. 개요[편집]

Nile

1993년 미국 사우스캐롤라이나 주 그린빌에서 결성된 브루탈 데스 메탈/테크니컬 데스 메탈 밴드.

브루탈 데스 메탈의 예술적 영역을 넓혔다고 인정받으며, 신비로움과 브루탈리티의 훌륭한 조화로 찬사를 받는 훌륭한 밴드. 미국 출신이지만 이집트/중동 특유의 묘한 느낌을 아주 잘 살리고 있으며, 그러면서도 매우 격렬하며 정교한 연주를 자랑한다. 앨범 한 장이 마치 고대 이집트 신화의 한 장면을 보여주는 것처럼 느껴질 정도. 또한 기타, 베이스, 드럼 이외에도 이집트의 신비로운 분위기를 표현하기 위해 토속 악기를 적극 도입하여 사용하기도 한다. Progressive Symphonic Folk Egyptian Ethnic Technical Death Metal 대부분 세션을 고용하여 녹음하지만, 칼 샌더스가 모두 연주하기도 한다.

이들은 다른 테크니컬 데스 메탈처럼 장기자랑을 잘 하지 않고 그냥 연주력 자체의 난이도, 특히 드러밍의 속도가 압박인데, 제대로 미친 속도다. 테크니컬 데스메탈의 장르상 bpm이 250 수준의 다른 장르가 범접하기 힘든 정신 나간 속도를 자랑하는데, 나일은 250~270의 속도를 자랑한다. 거의 세계 기록 수준의 연주를 트리거 따위 없이 계속 연주하는 것이다.

드러머 조지 콜리아스[1] 는 메탈계 최강급의 속주가이자 쩔어 주는 표현력, 연주력, 그루브감을 자랑하며 다른 두 멤버인 기타 겸 보컬의 칼 샌더스[2]와 댈러스 톨러-웨이드[3] 역시 조지의 가입 전부터 나일을 이끌어나가던 멤버들이며, 나일 특유의 분위기를 계속 만들어 나가던 멤버들. 사실 이 둘도 엄청나서, 3집까지의 드러머들은 이들의 난해한 기타리프를 따라가기 어려웠고, 조지 콜리아스가 들어와서야 나일이 완성되었다고들 한다. 2015년 베이시스트 브레드 패리스가 합류하였고, 탈퇴한 기타 겸 보컬인 댈러스 톨러-웨이드의 자리에 브라이언 킹슬랜드가 2017년 2월 합류하였다.
