춘추시대 위씨 8대 종주이자 진(晉)나라의 경(卿).
기원전 497년 7월, 범씨와 중항씨가 조씨의 집을 공격하자 조앙은 진양으로 도망쳤다.
한간자와
중항문자는 서로 사이가 좋지 않았고 위양자는
범소자와 사이가 나빴다. 결국 지智, 한韓, 위魏 세 가문의 종주들은
진정공에게 세 대신이 동시에 반란을 일으켰는데
조앙만 내쫓는 것을 공정하지 않으니 범씨와 중항씨도 축출해야 한다고 청한다.
같은해 11월, 한불신과 위만다가 정공의 명을 받고 범씨와 중항씨를 공격했지만 이기지 못했다. 범씨와 중항씨가 정공을 공격하나 국인들이 정공을 도왔고 지씨, 한씨, 위씨도 범씨와 중항씨를 공격했다. 결국
중항문자와
범소자는 조가로 도망간다.
12월, 한씨와 위씨가 조앙이 돌아올 수 있도록 청했고 12일에 조앙이 국도로 돌아와 공궁에서 결맹했다.
기원전 488년, 위만다가 위衛나라를 침공했다.
기원전 482년, 위만다가 위衛나라를 다시 침공했다.
위만다가 죽고 위구(魏駒)가 뒤를 이으니 그가
위환자(魏桓子)이다. 위환자 대에 조씨, 위씨, 한씨 세 가문이 지씨를 멸하고 공실의 땅을 나눠갖는다.
