중국 춘추시대 위(衛)나라의 제33대
군주.
위영공의 아들.
위출공의 아버지. 복위가 아닌 아버지임에도 아들보다 후대의 군주가 된 지극히 특이한 사례를 남겼다.
위장공과 구분하기 위해 위 후장공이라고 불린다. 그리고
한서(漢書)에는 위 간공(衛簡公)으로 기록되어 있다.
그는 세자 시절에
남자(南子) 부인의 음란무도함을 미워해

남자를 살해하려 했으나 일이 누설되는 바람에 위 영공의 분노를 사자 송나라로 달아났다가
진(晉)나라의 실권자인
조간자(趙簡子) 조앙(趙鞅)에게 달아났다.
위 영공 42년(기원전 493년), 위 영공이 막내 아들 영을 세자로 세우려 했으나 실패하고 병으로 죽었다.
[5] 그리고 남자가 영을 세우려고 했으나 영은 끝끝내 거절했다. 그리하여 실패하고 세자 괴외의 아들을 세우니 그가 바로
위출공이다. 조앙은 양호(陽虎) 등과 함께 세자 괴외를 세우려고 했으나 위나라의 대부들이 그것을 완강하게 막으니 조앙의 무리는 물러났다.
위 출공 12년(기원전 481년), 공리(孔悝)의 어머니 백희(伯姬)는 세자 괴외를 세우려 했다. 공리는 위 출공을 죽이려 했으나 실패하고 제나라로 달아났다. 그리고 그 아버지 세자 괴외가 즉위하니 그가 바로 위 후장공이다. 그는 즉위 후 자신을 막은 위나라 대부들을 전부 죽이려 했으나 신하들이 반란을 도모하려 하자 그만 두었다.
위 후장공 원년(기원전 480년), 위 후장공은 남자(南子)를 죽였다. 그리고 둘째 아들인 질(疾)을 세자로 삼았다.
위 후장공 2년(기원전 479년),
노나라의 성인(聖人)
공자(孔子)가 죽었다.
위 후장공 3년(기원전 478년), 위 후장공이 혹독한 정치로 백성들에게 원성을 샀다. 그리고 자신을 도와준 진나라를 배신하자, 조간자 조앙이 이끄는 진나라 군대가 위나라를 공격했고, 이에 당해내지 못할 것을 알던 위 후장공은 달아나니 사람들이 그 친척 동생인
위군 반사를 세웠다. 위 후장공은 융주(戎州)로 도망갔고, 융주에 살고 있는 이민족을 보고서 위후장공이 말했다.
"
오랑캐가 왜 여기에 있느냐?"
그리고 융주를 없애버렸다. 위 후장공이 융주에 있는 장인들을 혹사시켜서 원성을 사게 되었다. 그리고 자신에게 방해가 되는 구경 석포(石圃)를 제거하려고 하였지만, 석포가 미리 손을 써서 장인들과 융주의 융인들과 함께 반란을 일으켜서 융주에서 위 후장공을 몰아냈다.
위 후장공 일행이 도주하는 중에 세자 질(世子疾)과 공자 청(公子靑)이 융인들에게 살해당하고, 위 후장공은 홀로 달아나다가 융주의 기씨(己氏)의 집에 숨어있다가, 집주인 기씨에게 벽옥을 보여주면서 자신을 살려주면 벽옥을 주겠다고 하였지만, 기씨는 벽옥이 어차피 내 것이 되는데 무슨 상관이라면서 위 후장공을 살해하였다.
