브리트니 스피어스가 2005년 2월 14일 발매한 싱글이다. 그녀의 첫 번째 컴필레이션 앨범인
Greatest Hits: My Prerogative에 수록되었다.
2004년 발매된 'Greatest Hits: My Prerogative'에는 총 세 개의 신곡이 수록되어 있었는데, Do Somethin'이 그중 하나였다.
[2] 나머지 두 곡은 'My Prerogative'와 'I've Just Begun (Having My Fun)'. 이 중 'My Prerogative'는 커버곡이라는 점에서 완전한 신곡은 사실상 두 개인 셈이다.
사실 레이블 측에선 별로 밀 생각이 없었던 곡인데, 이 노래가 마음에 들었던 브리트니가 뮤직비디오를 찍을 것을 강력히 요구했다고 한다. 결국 브리트니의 요구가 관철됐고, 이듬해인 2005년 뮤직비디오와 함께 'Greatest Hits: My Prerogative'의 두 번째 싱글로 발매되었다.

Get Ya'가 이 노래를 표절했다는 논란이 일면서 굉장히 잘 알려졌다. AP, USA투데이 등의 해외 매체들에서 보도될 정도로 문제가 되자 작곡가인 김도현은 벤치마킹한 것은 맞지만 표절은 아니라며(...) 유사성을 어느 정도 인정했다. 실제로 원작자 측에서도 "표절이라 생각되는 부분이 있다"라고 밝혔다.
당시 한국 언론의 보도 다만 이후 소송까지 넘어가진 않았는데, 보도를 보면 '유니버설 퍼블리싱 코리아'와 김도현 측 간에 합의가 있었을 가능성이 높다.
어쨌든 위 사건 덕에 Do Somethin'의 국내 인지도가 대폭 상승했으며,
Toxic과 함께 많은 예능의 단골 BGM으로 사용되면서 더욱 인기를 끌었다.

정규 앨범이 아닌 컴필레이션 앨범의, 그것도 두 번째 싱글이었음에도 영국 싱글 차트 6위까지 오르고 유럽 여러 국가 차트 10위권에 드는 등 인기를 끌었다.
특히 이 노래는 북미에선 싱글로 발매된 적이 없음에도 미국과 캐나다 싱글 차트에 진입하는 데 성공했다, 인기 전성기를 달리던 브리트니의 인기를 알 수 있는 부분.

뮤직비디오 중간에 트럭 내부가 등장하는데, 해당 트럭의 대쉬보드에
루이비통 패턴이 그려져 있던 바람에
루이비통과의 소송으로 번졌다. 결국 루이비통이 승소했고, 해당 장면을 편집한 버전의 뮤직비디오가 다시 올라갔다.
