90년대 얼터너티브 록 장르를 대표하는 명반 중 하나이다. 특히 90년대 미국의 X세대 특유의 '슬래커 문화 (Slacker Culture)'를 잘 보여주는 작품으로 꼽힌다. 1993년 8월부터 9월까지 녹음됐으며, 발매 이후 빌보드 200에 16위까지 올랐다. 롤링 스톤 선정 500대 명반에서 294위에 랭크되었다. Undone - The Sweater Song, Buddy Holly, Say It Ain't So 총 3곡이 싱글컷됐다.
위저의 주 장르인 팝 펑크, 파워 팝의 매력이 잘 느껴지는 앨범이다. 카스의 리더 릭 오케이섹의 프로듀싱 대표작이기도 하다.
3. 앨범 아트[편집]
When I was 7, my family built a house. My parents said I could paint my room any color I wanted. I painted it my favorite color, a specific shade of blue. When I was thinking about a cover for the first Weezer album, I wanted it to be that same shade of blue. This mode of nostalgia for the lost innocence of childhood was the same source of my "look" in the Blue album era--the glasses frames, bowl cut, dickies, blue t-shirt, and windbreaker from my childhood photos.
...when the Blue Album was being recorded, there was a lot of brainstorming going on as to what this record would look like. I kept coming up with what I can say in retrospect were some rather kooky ideas, and Rivers kept pushing for something simpler. Finally one day Rivers dug out a cassette (remember those?) he had bought around that time, a cheapo Best of Beach Boys collection called "Do It Again". "Do It Again" was never issued on vinyl or cd as far as i know, and is most likely to be found in those handy truck stop stores out in the boondocks. However, the cover was really cool in its own rather hokey way, featuring the Beach Boys smiling for the camera, standing in a line of sorts, with a soothing blue background. Rivers said we have to achieve this effect on our cover, and so the idea of lining the guys up in striped shirts in front of a blue background took form. The guys actually went out and found 4 matching striped button down shirts, and in fact in late 1993 played at least one show wearing them, much to the contempt of the LA scenesters of the era. Noted 60's fashion photographer Peter Gowland was contacted to do the shoot, as his mellow pastel colored shots of girls in bikinis and guys out golfing had the exact "anti-90's" feeling we needed. To Peters sprawling Lloyd Wright-esqe 50's house we went, which was complete with a near-clone of 'Alice' from Brady Bunch manning the kitchen. The guys started the shoot in the striped shirts, but everyone later concluded that the photos looked better with everyone wearing regular clothes. Next spring, when the cover started becoming known to the local LA scene, the band met with immediate flak for ripping off the Feelies' 1980 album cover for "Crazy Rhythms". This was baffling to the band, who had never even heard of the Feelies before that point! But sure enough, the resemblance was unmistakable. 푸른 색 앨범 아트가 유명한데, 위저는 지금까지 커리어를 이어오면서 셀프 타이틀+색깔 배경으로 멤버들이 서있는 앨범 커버 조합의 앨범을 내놓고 있다. 공식 홈페이지 위키에 있는 설명에 따르면 리버스가 청색을 좋아한데다 비치 보이스의 오마주로 이런 커버를 했다고 한다. 그런데 막상 나오고 보니 필리스의 Crazy Rythmn과 앨범 아트가 유사하다고 욕먹어서 당황했다고. 게다가 필리스는 기타 팝 쪽에서 큰 영향력을 남긴 밴드라 표절 의혹이 있었다고 한다. 본인들은 전혀 몰랐던 모양.
따라하기 쉬워서인지 패러디가 엄청나게 많다. 가장 유명한 앨범 커버 중 하나로 꼽힌다.

알코올 중독에서 영감을 얻은 곡으로, 어머니의 재혼 이후 리버스 쿠오모가 집 냉장고에서 맥주를 보고 양아버지가 친아버지처럼 가족을 떠날까봐 걱정하며 쓴 곡이다. 쿠오모는 친아버지가 이혼한 이유가 알코올 중독 때문이라고 생각했지만 이는 착각이었다고 한다.
장르적으로 이모로 분류되기도 한다. 위저의 최고의 곡들 중 하나로 꼽힌다.
