그리스 아테네에 위치한 공립대학. 흔히
아테네 대학교로 불리며, 정식 교명은
아테네 국립 카포디스트리아스 대학교이다. 대학의 이름은 그리스 독립 전쟁의 지도자였던
요안니스 카포디스트리아스를 기념하기 위해 붙여진 이름이다.
1837년 5월 3일 그리스의
오톤 국왕에 의해 설립되었으며 현대 그리스, 동부 지중해 지역과 발칸 반도에서 가장 오래된 대학이다. 1837년 설립 당시에는 오톤 대학교(Othonian University, Οθώνειον Πανεπιστήμιον)로 명명되었고, 1862년에 오톤이 퇴위하면서 국립대학교(National University, Εθνικόν Πανεπιστήμιον)로 개명되었다. 1911년에는 카포디스트리아스 대학교와 국립대학교로 분할되었다가 1932년에 합병되면서 지금의 이름을 가지게 되었다.
