1. 개요[편집]
마우리시오 페소(Mauricio Pezo, 1973~)는 칠레 출신의 건축가다. 2002년 아내 소피아 본 에릭사우센 (Sofia von Ellrichshausen, 1976~)와 함께 '페소 본 에릭사우센(Pezo Von Ellrichshausen)'를 설립하고 콤비로 활동 중이다. 그는 2006년 칠레 건축가 협회로부터 젊은 건축가상을 수상하였으며[1], 2013년에는 콘세시온 시청으로부터 시립 예술상을 수상했다.
2. 생애[편집]
1973년 칠레 남부의 레나이코 마을에서 태어난 마우리시오 페소는 1998년 카톨리카 대학(Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile in Santiago)에서 건축학 석사[2], 1999년 비오비오 대학(Universidad del Bio-Bio in Concepcion)에서 건축학 학위를 취득했다[3].
그는 2001년 부에노스 아이레스에서 그의 아내인 소피아 본 에릭사우센을 만나 2002년 바릴로체에서 결혼했다. 2002년 그의 아내인 소피아 본 에릭사우센과 함께 예술 및 건축 스튜디오 '페소 본 에릭사우센'을 설립하고 현재까지 함께 활동 중이다.
2.1. 소피아 본 에릭사우센[편집]
아르헨티나-칠레 국적의 소피아 본 에릭사우센은 부에노스아이레스 대학교에서 건축학 학위를 취득하며 FADU-UBA 우등 수료증을 취득했다[4]. 베니스 비엔날레 국제 건축전(2018)에서 심사위원장을 역임하기도 했으며[5], 현재는 남편인 페소와 함께 페소 본 에릭사우센 예술 및 건축 스튜디오의 건축가이자 대학 교수로 활동하고 있다.
2.2. 페소 본 에릭사우센 예술 및 건축 스튜디오[편집]
페소 본 에릭사우센은 2002 마우리시오 페소와 소피아 본 에릭사우센 부부에 의해 설립된 예술 및 건축 스튜디오다. 둘은 칠레 남부 안데스 산맥의 기슭에 위치한 120 헥타르의 시골 지역에서 생활하며 작업하고 있다[6].
주로 그림[7], 공연[8], 설치물[9] 및 건축 작업[10]에 참여하고 있으며, 크리스티앙 볼탕스키(Christian Boltanski)[11], 펠리체 바리니(Felice Varini)[12], 마크 그로트언(Mark Grotjahn)[13]과 같은 저명한 예술가들과 협업한 경험이 있다.

그들의 밀접한 관계는 작품을 만드는 데 있어 중요한 요소로 작용한다[14]. 시, 그림, 조각부터 주택 또는 기관 건축, 그리고 학술 실습까지 그들의 모든 작품은 공동 저작물로 등록 되어있다. 건축 비평가들은 이 둘의 작업이 특별한 이유로 “친밀함”에 주목한다. 그들의 작업물은 몇몇의 일시적 협력 관계 외에는 주로 둘의 긴밀한 협력으로 진행되기 때문에, 기업식 건축의 대안으로 제시되기도 한다[15].

페소와 소피아는 뉴욕 AAP 코넬 대학교의 실무 교수 [16] 및 예일 대학교의 루이스 칸 객원 교수로 역임 중이며[17], 하버드 대학교[18], 시카고 일리노이 공과대학교[19], 오스틴의 텍사스 대학교[20], 포르투 아카데미[21], 칠레 카톨리카 대학교[22] 등에서 객원 교수로 활동한 바 있다.
이들의 작품은 런던의 왕립 미술 아카데미[23], 로마의 국립현대미술관(MAXXI)[24]에 전시되기도 했으며, 시카고 미술관[25], 카네기 박물관[26], 뉴욕 현대 미술관(MoMA)[27]의 영구 컬렉션에 등록되어 있다. 2010년과 2016년 베니스 비엔날레 국제 건축전(베네치아 비엔날레에 초청되었으며[28], 2008년에는 칠레 파빌리온의 큐레이터를 맡기도 했다[29].
두 사람은 MIT[30], 프린스턴 대학교[31], 컬럼비아 대학교[32], 메트로폴리탄 미술관[33], 뉴욕 건축가 협회[34], 테이트 모던[35], 빅토리아 앤 알버트 뮤지엄, 알바 알토 심포지엄[36], 영국 왕립 건축가 협회[37] 등에서 활발한 강연을 펼쳤다.
스튜디오의 작품은 IIT가 수여하는 MCHAP상(Mies Crown Hall Americas Emerge Prize)을 수상했으며[38], 이외에도 라이스 디자인 얼라이언스 상(Rice Design Alliance Prize)[39], 이베로아메리카 건축 비엔날레 상(Iberoamerican Architecture Biennial Award)[40], 칠레 건축 비엔날레 상(Chilean Architecture Biennial Award) 등을 수상하며 우수성을 인정받았다.
또한 작업물들은 '엘 크로키스 (El Croquis)'[41], 마드리드의 'AV'[42], 도쿄의 'A+U'[43], 바르셀로나의 '2G'[44] 등의 단행본 특집호에 소개되기도 했으며, 'Spatial Structure'(B Architecture 출판사)[45]와 'Naïve Intention' (Actar)[46]과 같은 에세이 책에도 다수의 내용이 편집되어 출판되었다.
