R.E.M.의 데뷔 싱글이자 1집
Murmur의 1번 트랙.
두 가지 버전이 존재한다. 첫 번째 버전은 인디 레이블에서 낸 데뷔 싱글로 1집을 내기 2년 전인 1981년에 발매했다. 두 번째 버전은
Murmur의 발매를 위해 메이저 음반사 I.R.S.에서 재녹음을 요청했고 R.E.M 역시 자신들이 2년 전에 비해 발전했다고 생각했기 때문에 만들어졌다. 여담으로 R.E.M. 멤버 본인들은 오리지널 버전을 더 좋아한다고 한다.
재발매 버전은 빌보드 싱글 차트에서 78위를 기록했고 5주 동안 차트에 머물렀다.
마이클 스타이프가 쓴 가사에 대한 논란이 많다. 정확한 가사를 밝히지 않아 사이트마다 가사가 다르고 해석도 잘 안되는 부분이 많다. 마이클 스타이프는 의도적으로 이해 안되게 가사를 썼다고 한다. 사실 R.E.M.는 미국인들조차 이해가 안 간다는 얘기가 많을 정도로
의식의 흐름을 따라 비의적인 가사를 자주 썼다. 그나마 메이저 올라오고 나서는 덜해진 편.
