Beggars Banquet은 롤링 스톤스의 기나긴 미국 루츠 음악
[3] 블루스부터 블루스의 원형인 델타 블루스, 컨트리, 가스펠, 소울
탐구가 최초로 이어진 앨범이다. 후에 이러한 탐구는
Exile on Main St.에 이어서는 정점에 이르렀다. 그 점에서 이 곡은 롤링 스톤스의 첫번째
가스펠 시도라는 점에서 의의성이 높게 평가받는 곡이다. 이후에 스톤스의
가스펠시도는 상술했듯이 단발성으로 그치지않고
You Can't Always Get What You Want나
Let It Loose 같은 더 뛰어난 가스펠 명곡으로 이어진다. 또한
Beggars Banquet에서 많이 시도된 성경 인용또한 이곡에서 쓰였다.
[4] 여담이지만 이러한 점들 덕분에 롤링 스톤스는 기독교와 사이가 안좋은 록음악 사이에서 사이가 좋은 몇안되는 록밴드로 뽑힌다.. 이는 모든 기독교인들이 록음악을 싫어하는게 아니라 비틀즈의 예수발언이라던가 마릴린 맨슨같은 컨셉충(?)들의 성경 찢는 퍼포먼스등으로 록음악의 이미지가 그들에게 안 좋게 비친 몇몇 사건들이 있었기 때문이다.
또한
키스 리처즈가 처음으로 백보컬이 아닌 보컬로 참여한 곡이라는 점에서 의의가 있는데 그의 보컬이 호불호가 갈리지만 이후
You Got the Silver,
Happy(롤링 스톤스)같은 곡에서는 단독 보컬을 맡기도 한다.
