1. 개요[편집]
영국의 작가 존 컨리프의 동화 및 해당 동화를 원작으로 하는 영국의 애니메이션.
그린데일이라는 영국의 한 작은 시골 마을의 우체부 팻과 마을의 주민들 사이에 일어나는 에피소드를 담고있다.
2. 상세[편집]
1981년부터 BBC를 통해 방영된 스톱모션 애니메이션이다. 2017년까지 8개의 시즌[1]과 12개의 스페셜 에피소드와 1개의 극장판이 제작되었으며 BBC의 장수 애니메이션으로서 인기를 얻었다. 한국에서도 1998년에 KBS를 통하여 '고마워요 우체부아저씨' 라는 제목으로 초기 시즌이 방영되고 스페셜 에피소드가 '사랑해요 우체부아저씨'라는 제목으로 비디오로 출시되기도 했으며, 2006년과 2012년에 EBS를 통하여 '행복배달부 팻아저씨' 라는 제목으로 중기 시즌과 스페셜 딜리버리 서비스 시즌 1이 방영되었다.
비슷한 시기에 BBC를 통해 방영되었던 같은 스톱모션 애니메이션이었던 파이어맨 샘[2]과 밥 더 빌더[3]가 모두 시대의 변화를 거치며 스톱모션 제작기법을 버리고 풀 CG 애니메이션으로 노선을 변경함과 함께 캐릭터들의 디자인도 전면 변경되었던 것과 달리, 포스트맨 팻은 일부 설정과 플롯이 변경되고 일부 장면[4]을 CG로 처리하는 것 이외에는 기존 캐릭터들의 디자인 변화가 없고 스톱모션 제작기법 또한 유지하고있다. [5] 그러나 파이어맨 샘과 밥 더 빌더는 공식 사이트가 여전히 남아있는 반면 포스트맨 팻의 공식 사이트는 SDS 시즌3의 종영 이후 완전히 사라져 버렸다. 현재 공식 사이트는 드림웍스의 클래식 애니메이션 작품 소개 페이지로 리다이렉트된다.
2021년 3월 현재는 드림웍스 채널에서 SDS 시즌3의 재방송이 이루어지는 중이다. 대한민국 IPTV에서 자막만 씌워서 송출될때는 '행복한 배달부 팻의 특별한 우편 배달'이라고 번역되고있다.
3. 탄생 비화[편집]
1980년대 초, BBC는 시골 마을을 배경으로 한 유아용 프로그램을 기획하고 있었고 이 당시 존 컨리프는 컴브리아의 켄달(Kendal)에서 교사로 근무하면서 아이들을 위한 동화들을 썼는데, 한 학부모가 그에게 BBC의 이 유아용 프로그램 기획팀에 그의 동화를 내보면 어떻겠냐고 제안하게된다. 이 학부모의 제안을 통해 존 컨리프는 BBC의 해당 팀 담당자와의 만남이 성사되었다. 평소에 동네의 우체국 관리인과 친분이 있어 우체부들의 일상을 자주 듣고는 했던 존 컨리프는 그 자리에서 켄달의 우체부를 주인공으로 하는 이야기를 제안했고, 이 제안을 팀 담당자가 받아들이면서 본격적으로 스토리가 만들어지기 시작하였다. 그리고 1981년에 시즌 1이 전파를 타게되고 동화책 또한 발간되기 시작하였다. 그린데일(Greendale)이라는 가상의 마을은 켄달 근처의 롱슬레덜(Longsleddale)을 모델로 하였다.

시즌 1부터 시즌 6까지 성우로 참여했던 켄 베리[6]가 부른 주제곡은 요즘 시대의 성인들이 들어도 편안하고 정겨운 분위기가 느껴진다.
시즌이 거듭될수록 조금씩 다르게 편곡이 되어가는 것도 특징. 풀버전 또한 실제 방영분에 사용된 음원과는 다소 차이가 있다. 역대 편곡들 중 시즌 1과 시즌2에 쓰였던 초기 버전이 팬들의 평가가 가장 좋다 .
